Irrigation Meters, Sub-Meters & Flow Devices

City Irrigation meters: A separate irrigation meter provides accurate measurement of outdoor use and the ability to more accurately monitor landscape water use. A dedicated irrigation meter will allow the user to accurately measure the amount of water that is being used for outdoor water consumption, rather than it being lumped into one singular water bill; once smart metering is in place it will also help identify irrigation leaks. The irrigation system can be shutoff for maintenance and repairs without impacting indoor use. Additionally, customers may reduce sewer charges because irrigation meters are not billed sewer charges since landscape water use does not return to the sewer system and separating use will decrease use through the potable system, therefore decreasing volumetric wastewater charges. Depending on the size of meter and usage, payback on a city irrigation meter is probably 3-6 years.

Submeters: These are purchased through private vendors and allow customers to more closely monitor how water is used at the property, without the expense of installing a city meter. Water savings may be up to 15% by having better control of water usage.

Flow devices: These go either on an existing meter or are installed on a plumbing line (like Flume). Also good options that aren't as expensive and allow for remote shutoff.
